FAQ

I bought a used car. Should I change the oil?

That depends on how far you trust the seller. In any case we recommend changing the oil, so you can be sure you can use the car safely until the next scheduled change.

Why does the oil get darker as mileage grows?

It is good and normal for oil to darken. This is the work of detergent and dispersant additives, which are always added to modern motor oils. The detergent washes combustion products off cylinder walls, pistons and other parts; the dispersant keeps the washed-off particles in suspension so they cannot settle again. Those suspended particles darken the oil in the second half of its service life. If the oil does not darken as mileage grows, it may lack a dispersant additive, which indirectly means dirt has settled on engine parts.

How can I tell original Turbo Puls oil from a fake?

Genuine product has: a cap with a first-opening seal on every canister; a film label with the brand design and metallised elements; and the production date and batch number printed directly on the canister at the factory.

How do semi-synthetic oils differ from mineral oils, and why are they better?

Semi-synthetic oil has the best price-to-quality ratio and better characteristics than mineral oil. Mineral oil is cheaper and still does its job. Its drawback is that it breaks down faster than other types and, over time, changes viscosity (thins out).

Do Turbo Puls motor oils meet the ISO 9001:2000 quality standard?

Oils cannot “meet” that standard, because ISO 9001 regulates quality-management processes in a company and has no direct bearing on the quality of oils. Motor oil quality is covered by the Ukrainian state standard certificate of conformity and by international classifications such as API and ACEA.

My car smokes at start-up. What does the smoke mean?

Bluish smoke from the exhaust means that too much oil is reaching the combustion chamber and burning together with the fuel. Solving this will most likely need an engine overhaul.

Why does the oil pressure warning light come on?

There can be many reasons, from a drain plug that is not sealed tightly to a wrongly chosen oil viscosity. We recommend visiting a service station.

Which oil goes into the gearbox of front-wheel-drive VAZ cars?

A transmission oil with an API quality level of at least GL-4. In the Turbo Puls range that is TAD-17.
